Understanding Your Shot Data

Explains ball speed, launch angle, spin rate, and carry distance.

The Foresight Falcon launch monitor tracks a detailed set of data points for every shot. Here’s what the numbers mean.

Key Data Points

  • Ball Speed — How fast the ball leaves the club face, measured in mph. Higher ball speed generally means more distance.
  • Launch Angle — The vertical angle the ball leaves the club face, in degrees. Drivers typically launch at 10–15°, wedges at 25–40°.
  • Spin Rate — How much the ball is spinning, in RPM. High spin = more stopping power on the green but can reduce distance off the tee. Low spin = more roll-out.
  • Carry Distance — How far the ball flies through the air before landing.
  • Total Distance — Carry plus roll after landing.
  • Club Speed — How fast you’re swinging the club, in mph.
  • Smash Factor — Ball speed divided by club speed. A smash factor of 1.45–1.50 with a driver is considered efficient.

Don’t Stress the Numbers

If you’re a beginner, don’t get overwhelmed by the data. The most useful number is carry distance — it tells you how far you actually hit each club. Over time, you’ll start to see patterns and can use the data to improve. For now, just focus on making solid contact and watching your ball fly on screen.
