GeneralHow-To Guide

Your First Swing (Absolute Beginner’s Guide)

For non-golfers: club grip, ball placement, safe swinging, and reading screen data.

Never swung a golf club before? No problem. Putter Sim Lounge is designed for everyone — from seasoned golfers to complete beginners. This guide covers the absolute basics so you can walk into a bay, hit some balls, and have fun.

Holding the Club

Hold the club with both hands, left hand on top (for right-handed players). Your grip should be firm but relaxed — think “holding a tube of toothpaste without squeezing any out.” Your thumbs should point down the shaft of the club. Don’t overthink it — a comfortable grip is the best grip when you’re starting out.

Ball Placement

Place one of our clean, unmarked golf balls on the rubber tee provided in the bay. For tee shots (using the driver or woods), place the ball on the rubber tee. For iron shots, you can place the ball directly on the hitting mat. The Foresight Falcon launch monitor will track your ball automatically — just make sure the ball is positioned roughly in the center of the mat. The Falcon’s hitting zone is large (about 59″ × 28″), so you don’t need to hit a tiny spot — but center keeps your ball flight aligned with the impact screen. Right-handed players stand to the left of the ball, left-handed players to the right. You’ll see a status light and on-screen indicator confirming the ball is detected.

Taking a Swing

Stand with your feet roughly shoulder-width apart, facing the impact screen. Keep your eye on the ball. Take a smooth, controlled swing — you don’t need to swing hard to get good results on the simulator. The launch monitor measures your club speed, ball speed, launch angle, spin rate, and carry distance. A smooth, centered hit will produce better data (and better shots) than a wild swing.

Reading the Screen

After each shot, the simulator displays your results on the projection screen. You’ll see where your ball landed on the virtual course, along with key data points like carry distance, total distance, and club speed. Don’t worry about understanding all the numbers — just watch where your ball goes and have fun.

Safety First

  • Only one person should be in the hitting zone at a time.
  • Everyone else should be seated behind the hitting area.
  • Take practice swings on the mat only — never swing a club near the launch monitor, projector, or walls.
  • Use the rubber tees only — wooden tees will damage the impact screen.

Try the Fun Modes

If a full round of 18 holes feels intimidating, FSX Play has game modes designed specifically for beginners and casual players. Try the Closest to the Pin competitions, Long Drive challenges, or mini-games — they’re quick, fun, and perfect for groups.
